Baptisms
Baptism celebrates God initiative and our response. It is God’s yes to us, and our yes to God.
As initiation into the church, The Body of Christ, baptism is an act of welcoming, blessing, and belonging.
Water, a symbol of God’s grace, is sprinkled on the head of the child or adult being baptized. This action takes place as the Minister, calling the person by name, says: “I baptize you in the name of God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” The Minister, an Elder, and family members then gently lay their hands on the newly baptized person and pray for the gift of God’s Spirit.
This is a joyous celebration in the life of Wellington United Church.
We celebrate The Sacrament of Baptism several times each year. We baptize people of all ages.
Adults who have been baptized in Presbyterian, Lutheran, Roman Catholic or Anglican Churches* are welcomed into full membership at Wellington United Church by the Renewal of Baptismal Faith. We do not rebaptize anyone. Those never baptized receive the sacrament when they join the church.
